Lions Roared Silently in 3-0 Loss to Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, KS. (Aug. 24, 2024) – Orlando City SC suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night. The loss snapped the Lions’ five-game unbeaten streak and marked their first scoreless outing since early June.
The match, a rematch of their Leagues Cup 2024 encounter, saw Sporting take control from the outset. Jake Davis’ goal in the 44th minute gave the home side a crucial lead going into halftime. The second half proved equally challenging for Orlando, as Dániel Sallói doubled Sporting’s advantage shortly after the break. Remi Walter’s late strike sealed the deal for the hosts, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Orlando’s head coach, Oscar Pareja, expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance. “Obviously, a very disappointing result,” he said. “It was a great opportunity for us to escalate in the standings and continue with what we have had in last few games. But today was not a good day for us.”
Pareja attributed the loss to a lack of energy and intensity from his players. “I thought we didn’t have the intensity that has characterized this group all the time,” he stated. “And obviously we need to move on.”
The Lions will look to bounce back from this setback when they host Nashville SC at Inter&Co Stadium on August 31st.The match will be broadcast on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
